The Island Archway near Loch Ard Gorge at Port Campbell on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road managed to collapse in June 2009 leaving two 25m rock pillars instead of a beautiful curve. The area is becoming known for falling sea stacks, with one of the nearby Twelve Apostles going down in 2005. Fortunately this photo shows the arch intact was it was before the collapse.
The vivid blue of the water is what most attracted me to this scene, but the sunset I think is what makes the shot. Difficult to find weather in this coastal area just right for good colours in the clouds. I’d waited some years before managing to click the shutter on this one.
