This set of shots comes from four trips, two up into Kosciuszko, and a couple of shorter ones down along the Great Ocean Road. Kosciuszko proved to the challenge it usually is. I’d hatched an ambitious plan of hiking out to Old Currango Hut. I saw two options open to me. The first being a long drive followed by a full day hike, or I could make a quick, trackless bush bash across an open plain on the edges Tantangara Reservoir. Given the weight I’d need to carry in camping and camera gear I opted for the later. Armed with map and compass I took off across the big plateau. Wild horses thundered past, following their own paths, most of which lead into a swamp. The further I hiked the more it became apparent that keeping my feet dry, while tussock hopping through muddy shallows was going to be the order of the day. Two hours later I made the hut, with soaked shoes and blisters on my heels. I was very thankful to be able to build a small fire and bed down on the hut floor. I hiked out the same way, thinking I could use knowledge gained on the way in to avoid the worst of it. Let’s just say that some dry socks in the car came in very handy. My second adventure into Kosciuszko, was up to the snowfields, covering ground I’d been on several times before. With clear skies, navigation proved easy, and I had a great time hiking from Threadbo out to Blue Lake and back. It can feel a bit isolated up there sometimes, with no-one around, particular if the weather closes in, but this time it was plain sailing. Down at the coast I took advantage of some free time to make what must now be my 20th or so attempt at Point Lonsdale Pier, this time coming away with a real winner.
