Lake Jindabyne sits beside the mountain township of Jindabyne. It’s up in the “Snowy Mountains” in New South Wales, not far from the popular ski resort town of Thredbo at Kosciusko National Park, though Jindabyne is also a good based for a skiing holiday.
The lake is very popular for fishing. Its 3000 odd hectares and is stocked with Atlantic Salmon, Brook Trout, and Rainbow Trout.
The town was actually completely relocated in the 1960s when the snowy river was dammed. The old town is submerged somewhere under the lake. Rumour has it that when the lake is very low it’s the water very clear it’s possible to catch a glimpse of the old buildings.
