Illawong Lodge is located a couple of hours walk from Guthega along the beautiful snowy river. At 1600 metres it does become surrounded by snow in winter, making it a great refuge for members of Illawong Ski Tourers. For non-members it is generally closed, though on this particular occasion our lad and I were invited in for a cuppa by the nice family who had booked it. Possibly they took pity on our bedraggled state after snow shoeing in from Guthega during a storm.

With the restorative powers of a hot beverage and a sit down, I felt able to face the weather again, and managed to capture this image in the late afternoon. The snow was attacking from right side of this scene, threatening to overwhelm the light as it tried to seep though.

Afterwards we explored the river and famous swinging bridge, before trudging back through the snow, just managing to reach the car in the last of the light. Fortunately the road was well groomed, allowing us to depart without donning our snow chains. A fantastic adventure and hopefully also a memorable image.

No, the copyright notice will not appear on your print.

What shipping or freight charges apply?
Shipping charges apply with both printers and vary depending on the size of the prints and destination. The freight fee will be shown during your check out process. As a rough estimate, using the Australian printer (Red Bubble), a small print sent to Australia might incur shipping of only $5, while a large framed print might be $20 or more. The US Printer (Smugmug) charges more to ship to Australia, with fees going over $45 US for some larger items.
