Lake Matheson resides on the west coast of New Zealand and is renowned for its crystal clear reflections. It certainly did not disappoint during our visit providing vivid colours during both sunset and sunrise. Arriving late one evening, having underestimated the distances involved in this amazingly large landscape, we literally ran the otherwise gentle 1 hr walk to this view point, just managing to get the last of the light in good form.
Brooding clouds hovered over the mountains rising up from Fox Glacier township hiding larger peaks such as Mt Cook, while creating a dramatic scene. Though something of tourist town, the remote but appealing location of Fox Glacier offers the beauty and adventure for which New Zealand is famous.
