Deep in the Otways National Park, well off the beaten tracks there are a wealth of hidden creeks lush with life and greenery. Heavy with moss the boulders strewn through-out these streams are slippery, made worse by the frequent rain squalls common during the wetter months.
I managed to discover this one just as the forest canopy filtered the golden light of sunset. I camped and returned the following morning after it had rained most of the night and shot it again between out-breaks of a persistent drizzle. Myself and the camera were wearing our wet whether grab. I was also carrying a heavy tripod, umbrella, and a pack with provisions and additional lenses. Thus encumbered I slithered up and downstream looking for alternate compositions. Snow pants and gaiters meant I could ford the water, but it was treacherously slippery with both hands occupied. At one point the camera nose dived towards some rocks while I back peddled alarmingly.
Finally the sun broke through the clouds ruining my diffuse light, but by then I’d had several hours shooting time and hauled my muddy form out of gully with a smile on my face. Good times!
